Search Tips

You can easily search the listed holdings of the Judaica Sound Archives at FAU Libraries. Several search options are available to you. You may search for a specific performer, a specific title, a specific record label, a genre, language, catalog number, or none of the preceding. If no search options are entered, the entire JSA database will be listed. If search information is entered into one or more fields, only those recordings which satisfy the combined criteria will be listed.
Performing Artist
Use this category to search for a performer whose name is known to you (e.g., Molly Picon), orchestra director (e.g., Nathaniel Shilkret), or accompanying performer (e.g., Dave Tarras playing the clarinet). Use either one of the two search criteria listed below.
“Contains” – The greater the number of characters you enter the shorter the search response time and the narrower the search. For example if you enter an 'r', all artist names that have an 'r' anywhere in the field will be displayed.
“Sounds Like” - Type in a phonetic spelling, or best approximation of the name you are looking for. The computer will use Daitch-Mokotoff Soundex encoding to find a best match for you.
