Folk Dances of Israel

Because of the many countries that have populated Israel, and because of the backgrounds of the Jews from those countries, is thus explained the many different interpretations of Israeli music. 3 of the 4 folk dances on today's Vistas of Israel program were written by Amitai Ne'emon.

1) The Shereleh, Song Of The Shears, a tailor's song, is originally from Eastern Europe, and has been re-born in Israel with a quickened rhythm and a livelier step. It is performed by the Israeli Folk Dance Orchestra. 1:48 - 4:08

2) L'or Chiyuchech, The Brilliance Of Your Smile, is a Yemenite love song. 4:33 - 7:23

3) V'haya K'etz Shatul, As A Tree Planted By The Waters, is sung by Rachel and is accompanied by the Israeli Folk Dance Orchestra. This song is comparing the Jewish Arbor Day growth of plantings with the growth of the people of Israel. 7:55 - 10:02

4) Cherkarsia is a highly spirited square dance with a caller calling the steps and is accompanied by the Israeli Folk Dance Orchestra. 10:33 - 13:55
