Judaica Sound Archives® Research Station

What is it?

Chava Alberstein

The Judaica Sound Archives Research Station (JSA-RS) is an innovative and unique way for FAU’s Judaica Sound Archives to share its resources with other centers of Judaic study. Special software has been designed to create a database search tool and classroom aid for researchers, teachers, and students of Judaic music, history, and culture. Digitized music files can be heard in their entirety in a non-downloading format.  Record label scans and album cover scans are also provided.  Music can not be downloaded from JSA-RS.

Who can use it?

JSA-RS can be be used only by individuals at qualified institutions of learning and study. Please contact the JSA-RS location closest to you if you are interested in becoming a user.

Why is it needed?

Due to US Copyright laws, 95% of the recordings in the JSA’s extensive collection of sound recordings cannot be legally shared on our public website. JSA-RS allows qualified academics and students access to a much wider range of materials.  Many of these recordings are rare or historic. Never before has so much Judaic music and voice
been so easily accessible and so beautifully reproduced.
