Of the 14 selections on this album all but one are texts of established sacred poems traditionally sung at the Sabbath table, while the other is a passage from the Sabbath liturgy. Since their melodies have been derived from the folk music of the countries in which they were sung they can range in character from Arabic chants through Russian and Polish airs to tunes from Provencal.
