Our Mission


The primary mission of the Judaica Sound Archives at FAU Libraries is to collect, preserve, and digitize Judaica sound recordings; to create educational programs highlighting the contents of this rich cultural legacy; and to encourage the use of this unique scholarly resource by students, scholars and the general public.

The Work of the JSA involves


  • Collection: locating Judaica sound recordings and encouraging donations;


  • Consolidation: organizing, processing and storing recordings that arrive at FAU;


  • Internet Access: creating the software and digital files needed to maintain and enhance the JSA website (http://jsa.fau.edu/)
    and blog (http://faujsa.fau.edu/blog/);
    for the use of students, scholars and the general public;


  • Cooperation: developing associations and alliances with other organizations;


  • Education: developing outreach programs and Internet materials which inform, entertain, and expand access to a valued cultural legacy;


  • Preservation: providing a long-term, secure environment for both the physical recordings and the digital files of the collection.

 JSA's Goals


  • To seek out audio recordings on tapes, CDs, and phonograph records.


  • To encourage performers, performance groups, and other copyright holders to grant permission for their recordings to be heard on the JSA website.


  • To expand and develop the JSA Research Station, making these off-site extensions of the FAU Library more useful and available.


  • To reach out to university and community resources in a spirit of cooperation and collaboration to optimize the use and appreciation of JSA holdings.


  • To seek endowment funding to ensure the future security of the Judaica Sound Archives collection.


  • To invite visitors to experience and enjoy the JSA at FAU's Wimberly Library in Boca Raton, FL.
