Folk Songs Of Israel/Damari & Davrat

Today's program highlights 2 Israeli folk singers, Shoshana Damari and Natana Davrat. Ms. Damari was born in Yemen and is probably the best known Israeli actress and singer as of the time of this broadcast. Natana Davrat was born on the Russian-Polish border and emigrated to Israel in 1948. She took her singing training in her new country and became one of the leading singers of the Israel National Opera. There are 4 selections on this Vistas of Israel program:

1) C'e Yonar, Go Forth, My Dove, is a sensuous Yemenite song sung by Ms. Damari.

2) Hagadi Sheavad, The Lamb That Went Astray, is a rhapsodic song saying that hope and perseverance are generally rewarded and is sung by Ms. Damari.

3) In Balim, Bells Of The Shepherds, tells of the end of the shepherd's day which is heralded by the ringing of the bells and is sung by Ms. Davrat.

4)Vi'ulai, Is This All A Dream?, is a rhapsodic song sung by Ms. Davrat.
