The songs selected for this album represent those of the Sephardic Jews in exile in Morocco, as well as ballads created in the 14th century. Along with Ramón Tasat's vocal and guitar performance, Scott Reiss adds the flute, tenor recorder, dumbek and dulcimer to the songs, while Tina Chancey contributes the rebec, vielle, kamenj, and viol. By including both early and traditional instruments, this historical music is given new richness and fullness.
