Sound Archives
Overview
FAU Libraries' Judaica Sound Archives collection includes 78 rpm phongraph recordings, LP albums, cassette tapes, 8-track tapes, 45 rpm recordings, and CDs. Taken together, this represents well over 70,000 sound tracks. The collection is continually growing as a result of material donations from institutions and individuals
JSA Collection Numbers
- 3,900:
Beginning with less than a thousand 78 rpm sound recordings in 2002, the JSA'a collection of 78s now numbers over 3,900 different records produced between 1901 and the mid-1950s (approximately 7,500 song tracks)
- 4,995: The Archives' LP collection includes over 4,995 different albums (approximately 60,000 song tracks).
- 729: The collection also contains 729 cassette tapes, 205 45 rpm records, 100 8-track tapes, and 55 CDs.

JSA Collection Composition
- Over 75% of the collection was produced in the United States.
- More than 50% of the collection can be categorized as Yiddish-language, humor and theater.
- About 30% of the recordings in the JSA collection are cantorial and/or litugical recordings.
